Power washing and surface cleaning
We start with a thorough power wash to remove dirt, chalking, mildew, and loose material. No paint application is going to last on a dirty or contaminated surface. This step is non-negotiable.
Scraping, sanding, and surface repair
Peeling, bubbling, or flaking paint gets fully scraped and feather-sanded to give the new coat a clean edge to adhere to. Caulking is inspected and replaced where cracked. Gouges, rot spots, and holes in the siding are filled before anything else goes on.
Primer application
Bare wood, repaired spots, and high-moisture areas all require primer before topcoats are applied. Skipping primer is one of the most common ways exterior paint jobs fail prematurely. We use the appropriate primer system for whatever substrate we're working with.
Full exterior surface coverage

Every Signature Painting exterior project follows the same disciplined process — from your first call to the final inspection.
1 - Free in-home estimate
We come to your home, evaluate the siding, trim, and prep needs, and provide a clear, itemized written quote — no hidden charges, no pressure.
2 - Scheduling and weather planning
We confirm a start date and monitor the forecast to ensure conditions are within the paint manufacturer's recommended application temperature and humidity ranges.
3 - Power washing
We thoroughly wash the entire exterior to remove dirt, chalking, mildew, and any loose material before any prep or paint work begins.
4 - Surface prep and repairs
Scraping, sanding, caulking, filling, and priming — the steps that determine whether your new finish lasts five years or fifteen. We don't cut corners here.
5 - Masking and protection
We mask off windows, doors, light fixtures, and features we're not painting. Landscaping, walkways, and driveways are protected from overspray and drips.
6 - Painting
Premium, weather-resistant coatings applied with professional tools across all exterior surfaces. We work in appropriate conditions and inspect throughout.
7 - Final inspection and touch-up
We do a close-up inspection of all painted surfaces in good lighting. Any thin spots, runs, or areas needing a second pass are addressed before we leave.

Freeze-thaw cycles
Wood and other substrates expand and contract repeatedly through winter. Paints that don't flex with this movement will crack and allow moisture infiltration leading to rot and accelerated peeling.
High summer humidity
Paint applied over surfaces containing trapped moisture will blister. We're careful about timing our application windows and ensuring surfaces are fully dry before we start.
Temperature swings
Paint needs to be applied within specific temperature ranges for optimal adhesion and cure. We monitor conditions and schedule accordingly — not just work to a calendar.
UV exposure
